By this I mean it saves like 65% fewer outlinks (maybe due to limiting my account for now). One benefit of level-1 warcs that everyone can personally and locally get (not by using wbm): you can download all of the outlinks.

This definitely happens, that's why
>>/123/ text
shows up as " >>/123/ [not greentext]text[/not greentext]" in 4chan and " >>/123/ [greentext]text[/greentext]" in desuarchive; example:
- https://archive.ph/2023.11.22-192620/https://boards.4channel.org/mlp/thread/40422488/#p40490512

> false negative
Desuarchive does in fact render "[start of line][whitespace]>text" as not greentext; 4chan renders that as greentext. Example:
- https://archive.ph/2022.11.07-212322/https://boards.4channel.org/mlp/thread/39200757/#p39274030

Test for Endchan:

[U+0020 here]What do?"
->
>you walk into your

Thing I dislike about qBittorrent v4.6.0: After startup, it won't just pause something in the transfer list when I ask it to; instead, it insists on "Checking resume data". So annoyed by this, especially given a certain situation, I removed these from a transfer list; they're a total of ~1 TB of MLP-related music, and each one has like a million files ("Pony Music Archive"):
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:4411586c676e05c8453c2e8dede4c26f64b93d35&dn=Pony%20Music%20Archive%2021.03%20%28High%20Quality%29

I seeded to 1:1 or better on neither (so I mainly leeched).

> Not very fond of data hoarding for the sake of hoarding.
But does anyone really do that? I bet almost everyone who is perceived as doing that has something of a plan as to what to do with it. Also, dealing with tens of terabytes of data with a bunch of hard drives can sometimes be an immense pain in the ass, especially if you are not very knowledgeable on the topic or have gained more knowledge and better stuff, but then have to upgrade/fix stuff. File or data operations can take a really long time.
>>/9046/
Here's another one-terabyte torrent, except this one is lowly distributed:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:9671fb0855c7931fe98f03f7612c18010fb10121&dn=4chan-mlp&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fopen.stealth.si%3A80%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker1.bt.moack.co.kr%3A80%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.theoks.net%3A6969%2Fannounce

Transmission 3.00 (bb6b5a062e) is ridiculous. I told it to only download 16 GB of a torrent, then it seemingly goes off to try and recheck the whole damn thing. (See image, should have ignored everything other than the selected 16 GB of files, but it rechecked about 100 GB out of 1000 GB so far.)

> [No.40592629] Pony in popular media, TV and movies. (1) Some Transformers live-action movie, forgot the name: Rainbow Dash, or maybe it was Pinkie Pie. (2) S01E12 of "Young Sheldon", titled "A Computer, a Plastic Pony, and a Case of Beer": "Sugar Apple", maybe G1.
"My Little Pony" is also in S02E02 of "Young Sheldon" ("A Rival Prodigy and Sir Isaac Neutron" first aired in 2018). Sadly, all of the per-episode scene releases of that S02E02 are dead:

It'd be great if there was an AI rework (or PMV or animation or something) of "Chestnut Mare" by The Byrds:
https://vid.puffyan.us/watch?v=_SdiSjpOdyU
> Always alone, never with a herd \Prettiest mare I've ever seen \You'll have to take my word\\I'm goin' to catch that horse if I can \And when I do I'll give her my brand\\Well, I was up on Stony Ridge after this chestnut mare \I'd been chasin' her for weeks \Oh, I'd catch a glimpse of her every once in a while \Takin' her meal, or bathin \A fine lady\\This one day I happened to be real close to her \I saw her standin' over there \So I snuck up on her nice and easy \Got my rope out \And I flung it in the air\\I'm goin' to catch that horse if I can \And when I do, I'll give her my brand \And we'll be friends for life \She'll be just like a wife \I'm goin' to catch that horse if I can\\Well, I got her, and I'm pullin' on her \And she's pullin' back like this mule goin' up a ladder \And I take a choice and I jump right up on her \Damned if I don't land right on top of her \And she takes off, runnin' up on to the ridge \Higher than I've ever been before\\She's runnin' along just fine 'til she stops \And something spooked her \It's a sidewinder, all coiled and ready to strike \She doesn't know what to do for a second \But then she jumps off the edge \Me, holdin' on\\Above the hills \Higher than eagles, we're gliding \Suspended in the sky \Over the moon \Straight for the sun, we were riding \My eyes were filled with light\\Behind us black walls \Below us a bottomless canyon \Floating with no sound \Gulls far below \Seemed to be suddenly rising \Exploding all around\\I'm goin' to catch that horse if I can \And when I do, I'll give her my brand \And we'll be friends for life \She'll be just like a wife \I'm goin' to catch that horse if I can\\And we were fallin' down this crevice \'Bout a mile down, I'd say \I look down and I see this red thing below us \Comin' up real fast \And it's our reflection in this little pool of water\\About six feet wide, and one foot deep \And we're crawlin' down right through it \We hit and we splashed it dry \That's when I lost my hold and she got away \But I'm gonna try to get her again some day\\I'm goin' to catch that horse if I can \And when I do I'll give her my brand \And we'll be friends for life \She'll be just like a wife \I'm goin' to catch that horse \I'm goin' to catch that horse \I'm goin' to catch that horse if I can \I'm goin' to catch that horse if I can

UPDATE

> Been awhile from my end hasn’t it? Where were we? Talking about salvaging old wikia wikis, right?

>>/8996/
> A lot of stuff happened in life that personally knocked me off track and I need to dig out where I even put everything from those attempts.

I found them. At least I think I did. Was whole lot more extensive than I remembered. Don't have a lot of time to go through stuff at the moment.

Here is an example of one of the "sweeps" I did on this wiki Something Sweet to Bite, a very small wiki for a fanfic that I was using to testing archiving wikia/fandom wikis. They were often very problematical and poorly constructed no mater what I did. Never got around to testing WARCs.

One of the problems I had was trying to filter out the sheer size of them (as someone who doesn't have the most hard drive space and was working... very ad hoc often. I'll say that). Even when I let things go with full on recursion or whatever I had issues.

I need to organize and make sense better of what I did. I have 15 sweeps of this site, most appear similar expect some having more broken links than others. If you view this site with the internet turned on you won't see the broken mess things are.

Oh and, Windows users might have difficulties opening this zip.

>>/9038/
> I think you mean "snaps".

Yes, you are correct. and if you look around, you'll often see my posts riddled with little misspellings.

Snaps, I'll admit they might have there purposes in some places, same for flatpaks , but the attitude of moving everything to them just feels like it will introduce another layer of overhead and complexity in some areas despite the intended user friendliness.

>>/9046/
> But does anyone really do that? I bet almost everyone who is perceived as doing that has something of a plan as to what to do with it.

Yes, many archive it, and that is important. I do not discount that effort at all as I have been part of such efforts as well. Though,
>>/8963/
> focus/discussion on fandom representation and how archival can be done within that context.

is a separate and more neglected task than archival. Lots of things have been saved, but are often inaccessible data dumps and a bit hidden to the average person.

> Also, dealing with tens of terabytes of data with a bunch of hard drives can sometimes be an immense pain in the ass,

This is still a very good point. When you are dealing with TB of data, especially five years of purging and such, can I blame those anons and others for not giving much of a thought? No. Still, I think the point still stands.

I know I made some IPFS-related posts before ITT, guess I should include some explanation as to what it is:
> IPFS is an open system to manage data without a central server
> https://github.com/ipfs/kubo
> IPFS is a global, versioned, peer-to-peer filesystem. It combines good ideas from previous systems such as Git, BitTorrent, Kademlia, SFS, and the Web. It is like a single BitTorrent swarm, exchanging git objects. IPFS provides an interface as simple as the HTTP web, but with permanence built-in. You can also mount the world at /ipfs.
> [Wikipedia:] The InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) is a protocol, hypermedia and file sharing peer-to-peer network for storing and sharing data in a distributed file system. IPFS uses content-addressing to uniquely identify each file in a global namespace connecting IPFS hosts.[4][5] \\ IPFS can among others replace the location based hypermedia server protocols http and https to distribute the World Wide Web.[5][6][7]

Elegant method didn't work for some reason. Oh, it's because it uses sh and not bash:

Just use grab-site. It writes WARCs which capture the actual native format of web/http content. grab-site works in GNU/Linux and maybe also Windows 10. I use it:
https://github.com/ArchiveTeam/grab-site
> The archivist's web crawler: WARC output, dashboard for all crawls, dynamic ignore patterns
> [history:] grab-site is made possible only because of wpull, written by Christopher Foo who spent a year making something much better than wget. ArchiveTeam's most pressing issue with wget at the time was that it kept the entire URL queue in memory instead of on disk. wpull has many other advantages over wget, including better link extraction and Python hooks.

If you didn't know, AT grabbed wikia.com / fandom.com wikis before they were mass purged back in 2018 and 2020. I'm glad they did that. Otherwise my wiki and many other's wikis which are now deleted would have been deleted with barely any public backup. It is an ongoing concern, and probably many images weren't saved. Read:

We use process substitution again to make a tee process that reads from standard input and dumps it into stderr.log. tee outputs its input back on standard output, but since its input is our standard error, we want to redirect tee's standard output to our standard error again. Then we use file redirection to redirect command's standard error to the FIFO's input (tee's standard input). [...] Process substitution is one of those really lovely things you get as a bonus of choosing Bash as your shell as opposed to sh (POSIX or Bourne). \\ In sh, you'd have to do things manually:[...]

Did not know that. Neat. I used to use these wikis often in the late 2000s and early 2010s but dropped off from unbearable experience (even with add blockers) and a lack of need (and sometimes, a disagreement with how they were run).

After running that !!... command, you can run this (or just run a while loop to begin with which runs a command to a certain count):
> $ wrapf() { !!; }
Why? Because "!!; !!; !!..." can make a too-long one-liner which shows up in "$ history" if you keep increasing it like "!!; !!" then "!!; !!" then "!!; !!" (doubles the length of the command each time). If you instead run "wrapf; wrapf" then it will run it 28 times without making a one-liner which fill up multiple screenfuls anywhere.
>>/9062/
So with saving wikis there's about two considerations:
- downloading Web ARChive files which contain all of the web pages/files from the wiki
- downloading XML data for everything, so the resulting .xml file(s) can work as a drop-in for any MediaWiki thing that anyone is running; such XML is a standard across MediaWiki-based wikis like Wikipedia, Fand*m, etc.

> While I have some space constraints, I will check it out.
By default, grab-site writes .warc.gz files, which are Gzip-compressed (level 9/max compression IIRC). wget with warc writing options writes raws plus warc files (so it uses more storage space than grab-site). Raws = non-warc data or files downloaded from the HTTP Internet.

https://smutty.horse/ is a read-only pony-focused Pomf clone. smutty.horse did allow uploads of basically any <128-MiB file (not just MLP-related files). Upload access ended over CP problems ( still the case today https://web.archive.org/web/20231218223343/https://smutty.horse/ ). This is some fuckin' bullshit if site owners follow best practices but still have goddamn cops show up at their home, personally charging them with crimes, putting them in cuffs, etc. instead of other actions that could be taken to change the website or get the website owner to do such and such. Not like police would show up in Elon Musk's mansion every time someone uploads CP to twitter.com.

Issues: (a) doesn't consider the case where a block is in neither repos (b) maybe not very I/O-friendly. I wrote a thing ~months ago that worked with (a), but I didn't record it well and it didn't work very well. Fix for (b): get index of a folder from $has_all, check which blocks $has_part has from said index ("ipfs pin add --recursive=false " in loop), export missing blocks to CAR files, import .car files, then pin it in $has_part. Other fix for (b) other than working with one big CAR file: run $has_all and $has_part in two different computers and fix $has_part's copy via the network. Third fix for (b): instead of "ipfs pin add --progress ..." being the method to find the next missing block a bunch of times, try getting an index each time (something like "ipfs refs -r --format=" -> = " [cid]"); the concern is that there's no way to get "ipfs pin add" to not hash everything each time, as I understand.

> Elegant method didn't work for some reason. Oh, it's because it uses sh and not bash
It does in fact work after replacing "sh -c" with "bash -c".

I've been indexing that 2.6-terabyte bafy...coza folder which has some MLP-related data. The python script I made and am using to index it definitely downloads way less than ipfs's built-in method (I'm pretty sure this is still the case), but it still downloads hundreds of megabytes in certain intervals. (So also in someway run "ipfs repo gc >/dev/null" occasionally.)

Dammit, I guess an update to kubo broke the minimal-download part of this:
https://gothub.projectsegfau.lt/ProximaNova/ipfs-ls-r/blob/main/ipfs-ls-r.py

That python script worked in the related software of a 64-bit computer, but it isn't working identically in the software of a 32-bit computer (either due to a kubo ipfs update or something else). Who cares? This matter for indexing multi-terabyte IPFS folders without having to download multiple terabytes. In the past I could almost certainly completely index a multi-TB IPFS folder and only download like <1GB from that whole process by using that .py file.

They're probably the project files of that Twilight Sparkle animation.
I guess this thread has reached the bump limit.

Not a big fan of how Twilight's head/face was drawn in that.

> minimal-download feature doesn't work anymore
I can tell that this is the case from looking at the output of this:
> [32-bit laptop]$ ipfs repo gc | sed "s/.* //g" | xargs -d "\n" bash -c 'for args do echo $args; grep $args bafybeifemum5o7icqdt4xtvgddobsmtc6u7pnfxiq7ij5z3bw6o433coza.index.txt; done' _
Possible solution: update ipfs-ls-r.py to not run "ipfs object links bafk..." (on leaf nodes); hopefully I won't end up with non-leaf-node blocks in the repo from indexing after that theoretical update.

I wonder if grab-site would've worked better for the problems they were having earlier with images on wikias?
I don't know enough about this though.

> dealing with tens of terabytes of data with a bunch of hard drives can sometimes be an immense pain in the ass
When writing this I also had in mind the whole process: uploading, downloading, etc. Problems I am having:
- Slightly annoying, but somewhat to be expected: I have a 5TB HDD which I used almost constantly for the past 7 months or something. I used it for automated web crawling every hour and almost constant torrenting (mainly uploading). This ZFS HDD is now degraded (also probably has slowdowns) and needs to be switched out. I am currently still using it for downloads every hour. I'm scared that maybe it turns off between each hour interval and perhaps that's worse than it being running all of the time. (z4)
- Annoying: I have another 5TB HDD, and I feel like I used this significantly less than z4. So I guess I used it like 40% to 80% of the time over the same span of time compared to z4. smartctl should show power-on hours for all drives. This ZFS HDD is also degraded with corrupted data, but maybe no slowdowns. (z8)
- Very annoying: I have a brand new ZFS HDD which I bought months ago (I should run smartctl test(s) on it). I didn't use this at all. However after doing like 10 read/write operations, "zpool list" always ends up describing that drive as "SUSPENDED" (status that a drive gets when it has errors so it is stopped to prevent further problems). I can plug it in and it works for a small amount of I/O then becomes suspended. It always does this. I was only able to write a terabyte or two to it in the past, and that's the only usage that it saw. FUCK THIS SHIT! I'M 'BOUT TO BREAK THE DAMN HARD DRIVE! I have a method of initializing all of the >$100 5TB HDDs that I buy which includes running a smartctl test. I guess I should included another test to see if the drive is shit or not: write 4 terabytes of files+folders to it and have it still be fine and use the data in it for hours with no problems. Then delete the test data maybe. Pain in the rump. (z7)
Have been trying to destroy zpool z7 which has/had ~1TB of "backups" on it - I ran both of these commands about 24 hours ago:
> $ zpool list
> ^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C
and
> $ utc; sudo zpool destroy z7; utc
> Tue, 19 Dec 2023 10:54:00 +0000

> kernel:[572075.263805] __common_interrupt: 0.37 No irq handler for vector
Meaning, 1st command: "zpool list" cannot show anything, cannot cancel that command either. zpool list should quickly the status of each zpool. Meaning, 2nd command: Also, shit garbage is happening with shit garbage; bad hardware/software (I'd think that ZFS works better in FreeBSD or OpenBSD instead of Linux which is what I'm currently using). If HDD z7 didn't suck, it could have been used to replace z8 or something; I don't care as much about z4.

Also I thought double * was bold not spoiler. *Test*

To partly answer your question, I have only coincidentally (not a specific effort) gotten a very small amount of Google Docs links from Blogger blogs.

>>/9081/
*I should include another test

Also, z7 is another 5TB HDD.

In fand*m.com, months/years ago there was yet another stupid change where these links -- https://.../wiki/File:... -- redirect to whatever page they show up on like https://.../wiki/Article_Name. grab-site could at least get the thumbnail images of everything. As for getting full images, could do this: look for the text "/File:" in wpull.log or the CDX file. After getting all of those matches into a separate URL list, you could use an alt front-end to download them. Run:
> $ grab-site --level=1 wikifile.txt 1>1log1.txt 2>1log2.txt
where wikifile.txt contains links that look like this:
https://breezewiki.woodland.cafe/mlp/wiki/File:Candy_Apples_ID_S5E6.png

To clarify, I mean downloading https://some_wiki.fand*m.com/ then getting all of the "File:" links from a wpull log/.cdx then putting them in a URL list and replacing the domain name with an alternative front-end (BreezeWiki) then grabbing those BreezeWiki links with level 1 recursion.

In that general in that other imageboard there were some posts about how https://libraryofbabel.info/ had some MLP-related content which is now inaccessible or gone. There was some other posts about another online Library of Babel; those can be partly summarized by saying: cannot easily save libraryofbabel.app links to whatever archive-focused site unless the URL is not-so-high-latency or cached. Might be cached by now, or not:
> older https://libraryofbabel.app/ref/41a9768e-d28d-4c70-ac1b-b4de875c1ffa.2.3.14.88

I read this soon after thinking about pony-related palindromes --
https://mlpforums.com/topic/46088-palindromes/
-- I came up with some. Stupid list:
* Rag, USSR, egg in a man, a pony, no Panama niggers, sugar
Better:
* Kino it Celestia, ha, it's election, IK.
A palindrome is a word, phrase, or sentence that can be read he same forwards and backwards. The full names of each of the mane six mares are not very palindrome-friendly. Advertisement from a palindrome generator webpage.

Sometimes I use Google to search for "super specific" things. Based on what I searched, I guess it learned about my interest in MLP and equines. Having anyone or certain entities who knows who you are specifically and know many of your specific interests is not great (unless you want them to know). This is why privacy is important. "Google knows about my interest in horse pussy." In the previous sentence, replace "Google" with "My mother" or "My entire family"; all three cases are not fantastic. Everyone has something to hide, and if they don't, they will in the future. Even if it is nothing possibly embarrassing, being deprived of the ability to have secrets/privacy is bad. (And you may not think of some things as embarrassing/negative but some entities might think it is then judge/annoy you or something based on that knowledge of you.)

As per usual, a little late and a bit of a bumpy landing. Went through way too much struggle just to get a handful of posts out. Outside the site going offline when I first tried this. It wasn't Endchan's fault, but a variety of IRL factors on my end.

Bye to what has been one whirlwind of a thread. Certainly bore witness to a lot of changes and am haunted that when this thread was made, the show was still on the air. Even if we were far from the golden days (however one defines them), it was still something of a golden time for me in many ways.

It might be a lemon. In mass manufactured products, especially electronic devices, there is always going to be a few that fail for no good reason other reason.

Another thing: Did you order the drive online? If it was shipped to you, improperly packed or mishandled, it might have a impact on its life even if it didn't cause it to fail right away.

Sometimes cheap drives can be scams, even when they say its new, ebay, amazon, and newegg sellers are a little notorious for it. I am assuming this is new.

Endchan's dialect of markdown is a bit different.
http://endchan.net/.static/posting.html
Single quote twice for italics and thrice for bold, for example.

I have a lot more things I could comment on but have run out of time for now. Will look over it later.
Found this old comic series today called My Little Pony: Friendship is Betrayal. Some links:
https://mlp-fib.blogspot.com/
https://mlp-fib.thecomicseries.com/

The comic was hosted on this webcomics hosting site which seems to have other pony-related webcomics too: https://comicfury.com/search.php?query=&tags=My+Little+Pony%3A+Friendship+is+Magic
There aren't many of them at all so it shouldn't be difficult to get them backed up.
I know there's another thread but it's looking cluttered so I'll be posting here instead. It's going to be a long time before this thread reaches the very end of the catalog anyway (if ever). Feel free to cross-post to the other thread.

Found a couple of pony ROM hacks on this ROMhacking.net
Pony Poki Panic: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/791/
My Little Pony: Dr. Discord's Conquest: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1731/
There could be more. I merely searched "pony".
