I need to know more about this. Why has my IP, that I only have used on one particular board, having broken no rules to my knowledge,is now useless. Unlike a ban I can't even appeal this error. I want to know if it's an algorithm thing or if other users/board owners can play a part (ie. reporting posts as 'spam' leading to this situation).

Not sure where else to post this, but can someone fucking do something about the cp spam shit? Letting hardcore cp sit on boards for hours on end is so fucking dysfunctional and pathetic it's insane

 >>/29536/
We delete constantly, or worst case asap.
If it sits on the site for hours then something is preventing us to take action.
Don't open images, don't click on links. Empty browser's cache to remove thumbnails, use private browsing or appropriate browser extensions.
Thank you.

This thread is meant for newcomers those who don't know a thing about Endchan - or perhaps have the wrong conception, some old users might have. I intend to add more posts with time, but lock the thread for now to keep the parts together. Later comments can come into this thread too.

Endchan is an imageboard like any other but no imageboard like Endchan.
A community maintained platform, where communities set up their own space and regulate themselves. At global/website level we aim for the freedom of expression as the United States' Constitution allows it. On board level the communities can decide themselves what they allow as long as they keep the global rules.
With the imageboard format Endchan also provides a relative privacy and anonymity as the internet is lacking so much these nowadays.

The name and the theme of the chan were inspired by Douglas Adams' immortal novel The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the various adaptations of it. Beyond Endchan's Birthday we also celebrate Towel Day each year to honor of this great work.
This is true since the foundation of the site in 2015. Since then the place evolved thanks to the users who provided the mascot End Knight and Greyanon to represent it.

From the original humble size with continuous growth Endchan turned into this thriving imageboard with impressively modest amount of users. Weathered the storms of the internet, the collapse of other chans, and direct attacks. Many communities came and went, a few rooted and all together created a patchwork of colorful assemblage from all over the world, pressing it to embrace an international character.

Today, as always, Endchan is like the planet which gave birth to it:
Mostly Harmless
Endchan is a platform. But what a platform is?
A platform - such as Endchan, or Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Reddit, 4chan, *chan... - is a bus. A mod is the bus driver, a dev is the mechanic, users are the passengers.
If one of the passengers stole the wallet of another passenger who would be liable for the act?
The thief, the road the bus runs on, the other passengers, the bus driver, the mechanic, or the bus itself?

A platform is not a publisher. It's not like a news site, a NGO's website, a personal blog. A platform is a service users can interact with and populate it with content, the publisher is the user.
In legal context a platform is an "interactive computer service" and its liability is regulated by "Section 230" (47 U.S. Code § 230 - https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/47/230).
The freedom of speech is taken very seriously in the United States. If a user generated content was deleted on a platform, the user could claim that his freedom of speech was violated. Section 230 was put in place to grant immunity to platforms for removal content they deem harmful. But to be able to work, grow and be developed they are also not liable for the content users generate.
As Josh put it in an article, the lawmakers provided a sword and a shield for platforms. How I see it they gave them a shield so they can use the sword.

Please note: Section 230 doesn't mandate "interactive computer services" to remove any content. The law only encourages it and protects it.
This was in 1996, and this law made it possible for platforms to thrive. Since then other laws were passed, and future changes can be expected. We will return to them in a later post.

As a newish phenomenon we're getting DMCA requests now and then. It happened enough times to dedicate a thread for it, a quick explanation and thought.
When we consider a DMCA request we check if the subject in question satisfies fair use:
https://fairuse.stanford.edu/overview/fair-use/what-is-fair-use/
In short we take a look if the posts, the thread can be considered as commentary, criticism, or parody. If we don't find this aspect of the thread prominent enough, we have to comply to the take down request. If this happens we might not give a notice to the affected poster or board.

Personally here I wanna encourage our posters to do creative work, it can be more satisfying and entertaining.

Reminder that you have a legal obligation to respond to ALL DMCA requests.

If you ignore a valid notice, you lose your Safe Harbor protection which opens the door for copyright owners to sue you due to you being liable.

This extends to hosting content and LINKING content -- which I believe is already an issue on /agatha2/

https://www.copyright.gov/512/

Given enough time and the right legal mind, that board itself (endchan by extension) is open for a class action lawsuit if DMCA notices are not taken seriously and responded to in a reasonable timeframe.

Someone might even be working on something like that already...

 >>/29821/
We do take care all DMCA requests.
There is no time limit how "quickly" we should act even if you write a time limit in there. If you see we haven't take care your request and you feel it's getting long write a note for us to check the emails, it's possible we missed it.

You could try experimenting with the file size limit, set it to 1Kb or something. Not sure the correct syntax.
I think if you set the maximum files to 0 it will set it to the maximum possible.
Perhaps restrict allowed file types to I dunno what, txt...

The captcha button has no reload button in the reply pop-up. It doesn't always reload automatically, in turn causing the user the need to refresh the page.

> Suggestion 1

Consider wrapping the site with IPFS for archival/resiliency.
https://ipfs.io/

> Suggestion 2

Consider adding support to KurobaEx. The current most popular FOSS image-board app on Android. A fork of Kuroba.
https://github.com/K1rakishou/Kuroba-Experimental/
I know this isn't exactly an Endchan thing, however it would be beneficial to Endchan end users and allowing more people to use it easily on mobile.

I think we missed your post due to the flood.
Those options control how "wide" of a subnet gets banned. Narrow is /24, wide is /16.
Let's say the IP is 12.24.232.198
Then the narrow range is: 12.24.232.0
The wide: 12.24.0.0
Here's wikipee article about the topic:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subnet

 >>/29156/
Thanks, I'll pass it on.

It seems to me the "Scrub media (remove image from site)" option when deleting posts is no longer working correctly. When I delete posts with this option checked the files are no longer removed from the server as they were before and still remain accessible with the direct link to the image. This is a problem.

 >>/29192/
I'm not aware that BOs/BVs could scrub. I thought scrubbing is a global option (since it could effect more than one board.)
Board staff can use the remove media, to remove just the media from the post. This doesn't delete it from the db ofc.

 >>/29194/
Maybe we just scrubbed those. We do vet orphans and there's automatic deletion too. Also if it's a cp spam, that posted across the boards, it could happen that you delete on your board, and right after we delete (we always use scrub in those cases) then it could seem you scrubbed.

 >>/29747/
You don't need an account to post on Endchan, it's an anonymous imageboard. Namefagging can be done with tripcodes, see ?help.
You need an account if you want to open a board, or want to become a volunteer on a board or the site. That's about it.
