Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987). Two days before Thanksgiving, an advertising executive faces delayed travel and, while his travel plans are being stalled and diverted, he meets a shady salesman. The two both struggle to meet their destinations, and hesitantly, become obnoxious angry bickering travel buddies. Among the rather chaotic journey, they become pals, getting drunk, getting stranded, getting lost, getting ripped off and having to deal with one hard blow after another trying to get back home.

I watched an old independent creature feature movie a few months ago called Magnetic Monster (1953). During a criminal investigation into bizarre radioactivity coming from a local appliance in which one dead body was recovered, they find evidence of an artificial radioactive isotope, serranium, being studied & modified by a scientist who they begin tracking down. Upon learning in horror that the scientist bombarded serranium with alpha particles for 200 hours they were told the radioactive isotope was beginning to grow and take a life of its own. The unstable isotope absorbs energy from its surroundings every 11 hours, with every cycle, it doubles in both size and mass, releasing deadly radiation and incredibly intense magnetic energy. OSI officials determine that, with its rate of growth, it will only be a matter of weeks before the isotope becomes heavy enough to affect the Earth's rotation on its axis, eventually causing it to break out of its orbit around the Sun, effectively destroying the entire world. Now governments and scientists have to work together to figure out how to stop it before the world is destroyed completely.

Lots of great movie recommendations in here, has anyone seen the 1979 movie "Border Cop" with Telly Savalas? It's a good film but kinda hard to find on the internet, wondering if this film was purposely memory holed due to 'woke' cancel culture?? The only video I ever found was a 480p VHS rip lol and I doubt the source is still available today.

The Omega Man (1971). Based four years later in 1975 after the Sino-Soviet border conflict escalated into full-scale biological warfare that ends up destroying most of the human race and turns most survivors into a hostile dreaded inhuman plague, US Army Col. Robert Neville is fighting to survive in post-apocalyptic LA. He spends his days patrolling now-desolate LA, salvaging basic necessities and fuel, killing members of a cult of hostile plague victims and searching for other normal humans like himself who are still alive. When Neville discovers he has a cure for the plague he bands together with other normal survivors in attempt to rebuild human society and kill off the hostile mutant plagues.

I watched the Royal Hotel (2023) last night and it was OK, entertaining enough to watch once but not enough to be a big hit or anywhere near among my favorites. It had the potential to end a lot more suspenseful which I think the script writer and director blew a good opportunity to make this movie better than it was.

What I did like about the film was it's realistic dark gritty environment, special effects were not overused or abused, unique personalities and characters, overall good acting and story.  5/10.

Testament (1983). A normal suburban family living in a small town 60 miles from the San Francisco Bay Area is living their typical lives when all the sudden the Emergency Broadcast System interrupts the television and radio stations all over America warning of an imminent nuclear confrontation with the Soviet Union. Their lives are forever disrupted and change dramatically as San Francisco, among other populated cities, go silent and everything goes dark. No more television. No more radio. No more power grid. Cold food spoils. Grocery stores run out of food. Luxuries of modern civilization are all gone. The father of the family who worked in San Francisco is dead. Now the mother has to take care of her three children in darkness, rationing resources and dealing with radiation sickness plaguing the surrounding community.

Only The Valiant (1951). Following the American civil war, a despised cavalry commander is unfairly blamed by his troops for the death of a beloved officer and tries to redeem himself before an Indian attack on their fort in New Mexico. In a last ditch effort of desperation, the cavalry commander assembles a group of misfits and rowdy drunks to hold off the rampaging Apache after cutting the main water supply to the fort. Things start to sour after the drunks secretly exchange limited water reserves for booze without the cavalry commander knowing about it.

Well it's that time of year again, and Christmas movies are being watched by many families. I was blessed to find a modern Christmas movie that wasn't complete retarded shit and to the contrary, very witty and entertaining!

The Holdovers (2023). Taking place in the year 1970, it is Christmas season at an all-boy private school where wealthier parents send their teenage sons to get the best education. While most kids get to go away to visit their families during Christmas, a few are forced to remain at school under strict guidance due to unfortunate circumstances such as marital affairs. This year, a highly unpopular strict history teacher is recruited to supervise the unfortunate holdovers, except this year only one poor teenage boy cannot leave due to his mother breaking up with his father and finding another man. One arrogant troubled boy and a strict teacher with a penchant for discipline and rigorous study make one dangerous match. But with a school cook who lost her son in Vietnam, a friend of the teacher, she does her best trying to de-escalate the tension between the two. While they initially all feel alone and upset for the holidays, they form a strong bond that gets everyone into trouble.

There are a few modern gems out there but it's like digging through a mine full of dirty shit just to find the next gem. The movie above was one of those rare modern gems. Definitely adding it to my classics collection!

A Christmas Story Christmas (2022). A sequel based on the 1983 movie "A Christmas Story" this movie takes place two decades later when the main character of the original movie, a 12 year old kid, is all grown up with his own family. Now a father and a wannabe career story writer is faced with growing financial problems, family accidents, his father who recently passed away and some promises made to his increasingly worried kids he may not be able keep due to unfortunate unintended circumstances. Meanwhile he struggles to make a writing career for himself, even to write an obituary for his deceased father. Will his family pull through? Will he make it to see a wonderful Christmas and overcome depression and failure?

Zombie (1979) (also known as "Zombi 2" in many European nations, the original "Zombi" known as the 1978 movie "Dawn of the Dead" by George A. Romero). Zombie (aka "Zombi 2") was filmed one year after "Dawn of the Dead" by Lucio Fulci. While this movie is not an actual sequel or part of Romero's "Living Dead" series, it was created as a spin-off, taking some of the original ideas and creating a completely different unique story and environment that mimics part of Romero's classic zombie films.

Plot: A doctor is experimenting on the indigenous people on the island of Matul when a strange pandemic breaks out. Natives believe it to be a voodoo curse that has awakened the dead. Despite hesitation from his colleagues, the doctor insists staying on the island to conduct more tests and researching the phenomenon of zombie reanimation. This of-course proves to be a very dangerous endeavor.

Yeah it's a pretty good movie. I really like it. It's low budget but has a lot of soul in it. I think that was Romero's first film release too.

Night of the Living Dead (1968) was Romero's first zombie movie, followed by the sequels Dawn of the Dead (1978) and Day of the Dead (1985). He remade a few of these over the years but the remakes got nothing on the originals, all the originals top notch classics. I would also have to say Zombie (1979) was very good too and although it was not a Romero film it still had the same vibe and genre of Romero's original series and if no one knew any better could have easily passed as a sequel too.

The most ironic thing is low budgets do not make a movie bad. I have seen million dollar productions that flopped and end up being horrible. What makes a good movie is the dedication of the actors and a really good intriguing story line that keeps the viewers in suspense. Some of my favorite movies are ones without a popular celebrity and tend to be older independent low budget films.

I use an online media ripper to grab anything I desire uploaded to Youtube, one way you can simply bypass the forced site Ads. Plenty of options when it comes to open-source online media downloading software. Just make sure you have the videos encoded correctly (I choose the most common standard x264 AAC mp4 formats because those will play on almost anything today including modern and older television sets).

I just watched the TV movie mini-series Wake In Fright (2017) based off the old movie from 1971. It was surprisingly very good, very well done.

There are a few differences with this 2017 version, it is much more drug-fueled than solely based on binge drinking unlike the original movie. Not that I wish to spoil anything, but there was an additional story line not covered in the original 1971 movie where one actor gets killed, so the script changes a lot in the second half of this new 2017 version.

Although it was a deviation from the original classic Wake In Fright movie from 1971, the 2017 version was very good, suspenseful, had good acting, no "woke" shit you often see today which was a huge relief, the Australian blokes did a superb job with this modern rendition too.

New York Confidential (1955). A classic film noir. A crime syndicate in New York is run by a gangster who hires a notorious mobster from Chicago to work for him as a body guard and temporary hitman when needed. When the crime syndicate and their corrupt political and corporate associates fail to land a billion dollar contract with the federal government they seek to corner the market by murdering their competition. When things take a wrong turn and fail there are too many who know too much that can bring down the entire crime syndicate. The resulting struggle is a paranoia fueled cover-up that could catch up to them and bring them all down.
