Keeping eye injury clean isn't straightforward.
Tear should wash dirt out, but that needs tear. There are eye drops which little more than distilled water, which should be fine to help the body to heal the injury.
It is suggested NOT to use iodine (betadine) but I used it in highly diluted form to clean out some dirt I couldn't remove otherwise. It still stung my eye for a while, but I rested it and was fine.
If your cornea got scratched, you should visit a doctor asap.
