When I say "exercise your independence" I mean making your own society without parasites. And what usually happens is WACO.

Near future, technology will enable distributed societies that don't organize/exist in a single place, but cooperate on a network, that will be harder to WACO. But that seed has to evolve into new meta-religions, which ultimately will sprout into kingdoms.
