Subject: Pardon for Former Congressman Stephen E. Buyer (R-IN)
Dear Mr. President,
We the undersigned request a full Presidential pardon for retired Congressman Colonel Steve Buyer, USA (Ret.). As former Members of Congress, we have personally and professionally known Steve for decades and can attest to his thirty years of honorable Congressional and military service to our country. Like you, he has suffered the consequences of a politically weaponized federal and state judiciary.
Steve was prosecuted and convicted of insider trading in the Southern District of New York. During his trial, overzealous federal prosecutors used highly speculative stories of insider trading to build their case against Steve, despite testimony that he had received no material nonpublic information. The all-Democrat jury in Manhattan convicted Steve, based solely on circumstantial evidence, before a Clinton-appointed federal judge. Steve served his sentence. As you know, the Second Chance Act permits one to serve the last 10% of the sentence in home confinement; however, the morning after your second term election, the Biden DOJ Federal Bureau of Prisons manipulated the rules by canceling Steve's 2.5 months of home confinement.
Like you, Mr. President, Steve has been the victim of lawfare conducted by the Biden Administration. He was targeted by the deep state because of his service as a House impeachment manager in the prosecution of President Bill Clinton where he also sought an indictment of Hillary Clinton. In addition, he vigorously fought against the disenfranchisement of military voters overseas in the Florida re-count initiated by the Gore-Leiberman team during the 2000 presidential election.
The Clintons, the Bidens, their surrogates, and Democrats in the deep state never forgot Steve's contributions that were an affront to their beliefs and objectives. They played the long game to seek political retribution against him. Steve's political prosecution is but one of many wrongful actions taken by Democrats over the past four years. The Biden administration violated sacred principles of our Constitution by abusing the power of the Justice Department to persecute our citizens and erode the trust of the American people. This conduct is an outrage that must be stopped.
We appreciate your leadership, Mr. President, in restoring the trust and confidence of the American people by promoting fair treatment and justice at the Department of Justice. This can only be done by changing DOJ's culture to end politically motivated lawfare. You are the agent of change America needs to right the wrongs of the past with compassion and justice.
Steve maintains his innocence to this day. Your full pardon for his criminal conviction and having DOJ dismiss the SEC civil case against him, will free Steve from the burden of public guilt wrongly placed upon him by the politically weaponized legal process. No American should ever be wrongfully accused, prosecuted, or punished.
