CT (Computed Tomography) scans expose patients to ionizing radiation, which is a known carcinogen that can increase cancer risk (linear non-threshold model)
No Threshold: There is no "safe" level of exposure. The model assumes that all exposure to ionizing radiation carries some degree of risk, even at the smallest conceivable doses.
Pearce et al. (2012) — "Radiation exposure from CT scans in childhood and subsequent risk of leukaemia and brain tumours: a retrospective cohort study" in The Lancet.
Landmark study showing dose-dependent increases (e.g., ~3x risk of leukemia or brain tumors at cumulative doses ~50–60 mGy from a few head CTs in kids)
