White House Press Pool Reports @WHPressPool - WH print pool report #4
President Trump touted EPA actions to ease two Biden-era refrigerant rules, arguing the actions will lower costs for Americans.
Trump later took questions on the EPA actions, his now-delayed AI executive order, the anti-weaponization fund, the ballroom, Cuba, the materials for the ballroom, Iran and much more.
The entire event lasted about 47 minutes.
A large posterboard propped up to the side read, “The Trump Deregulatory Agenda.” A second pasteboard claimed the EPA actions will save $2.4 billion.
“This was a tremendous burden, a tremendous cost,” Trump said of the Biden-era EPA rules. “These people had to live with it not only refrigerants, but a lot more, and it was making the equipment unaffordable. And the actual benefit was nothing, it just made it worse, made life worse, and it drove up costs tremendously.”
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin spoke as well as executives from Kroger, Piggly Wiggly, as well as a Fresh Foods store owner.
“It’s not going to have any impact on the environment,” Trump said in response to a question about potential environmental concerns.
Trump was asked what happens if Congress doesn’t sign off on $1 billion for security fund tied to the ballroom.
“Then the White House won’t be a very secure place,” he said.
Trump confirmed he’s canceled the AI executive order signing originally set for this afternoon. Trump said he had concerns about the order.
“I didn't like certain aspects of it, I postponed it. I think it gets in the way of, you know, we're leading China, we're leading everybody, and I don't want to do anything that's going to get in the way of that lead. We have a very substantial standard on AI, it's causing it's causing tremendous good, and it's also bringing in a lot of jobs, tremendous numbers of jobs. Again, we have more people working right now than we've ever had. I really thought that could have been a blocker.”
Trump was asked if he's going to Don Jr.'s wedding this weekend:
“He'd like me to go, but it's going to be just a small little private affair, and I'm going to try and make it.”
“I said: 'You know this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things. That's one I can't win on. If I do attend I get killed. If I don't attend I get killed by the fake news.”
I will send a later email with some more comments.
