In late 2025, she took sensitive DOJ files including internal messages, a memorandum, and a sealed report that a court order specifically barred from being shared outside the department and disguised them with innocent file names like “chocolate cake recipe” and “Bundt cake recipe” before sending them from her official DOJ email to her personal email accounts. 
This directly violated a February 2026 order from Judge Aileen Cannon prohibiting the release or distribution of Volume II of Smith’s report.
Lineberger, who worked in the office handling aspects of Smith’s Trump case, has a strong background as a pro-DEI advocate. 
She participated in implicit bias training, served on committees for diversity initiatives under the Biden administration, and held leadership roles with the National Black Prosecutors Association. 
She pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include two counts of theft of government property, destruction/alteration/falsification of records in a federal investigation, and concealment/removal/mutilation of public records.
If convicted she could face up to 20 years in prison. The case was brought in the Northern District of Florida.
