White House Press Pool Reports @WHPressPool - In-town pool report #12 - Picnic highlights
Pool is being held in a makeshift enclosure in the middle of the South lawn, surrounded by tables for guests.
FLOTUS addressed the crowd and thanked House lawmakers for passing the Fostering the Future Act today.
“This great American social tradition reminds us that some fun and laughter with our families can bring unity, especially when our children and loved ones are by our side,” FLOTUS said.
Following the First Lady, POTUS took the podium and singled out House Speaker Mike Johnson, who is in attendance, as “going to go down as one of the great speakers.”
He also acknowledged Senate Majority Leader John Thune, calling him “terrific.”
POTUS devoted a few minutes to admiring the large flag pole and American flag that he installed on the South Lawn, and musing about which side of the White House is technically the front.
“For since, if you think about it, 1792 nobody's figured out which is the front and which is the back of the White House. It actually has two fronts, and I put two flags up, and it's a great pole, and it's a beautiful flag,” he said. “I always like putting the flag up, and I know a lot about flagpoles, and that's the best flag pole there is.”
POTUS then turned to Iran, and said he hoped to be finished with the conflict “very quickly” and “in a nice manner.”
He also previewed the upcoming 250th anniversary of the U.S., the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics.
“So I just want to thank you, all you spectacular people, the political people out there. I love you all. And we're going to have one hell of a time for the next few years, and hopefully the next few years will lead to great news for many, many years to come. Thank you very much, everybody,” he said.
At the conclusion of the remarks, POTUS and FLOTUS descended from the White House balcony and began working the rope line of attendees.
