Arne Vidar Røed, a Norwegian merchant marine, dies of a mysterious new virus that seemingly has no cure. He was 29. 
His eight-year-old daughter died of the same illness on January 4, and his wife is sick with it. 
Doctors are baffled and believe that Røed may have contracted the disease when, aged 15, his ship was docked in Cameroon in 1961. Røed also contracted gonorrhea on that trip.
