Acting AG Todd Blanche @DAGToddBlanche - Today, a grand jury in Alabama returned an 11-count indictment charging the Southern Poverty Law Center with wire fraud, false statements to a federally insured bank, and conspiracy to commit concealment money laundering.
@splcenter stands accused of manufacturing and creating the very extremism it purports to oppose. Instead of dismantling extremism, @splcenter was funding it.
I would like to thank our partners from @USAO_MDAL and @FBI for their incredible efforts in bringing this case.
Today is just the beginning, stay tuned.

Amazing Maps @amazingmap - At this point, the Ottoman Empire still controlled Mecca and Medina, the two holiest cities in Islam, giving it significant religious as well as political authority.
The Ottoman sultan also held the title of caliph, which meant the empire was not just a regional power but a central authority for much of the Muslim world.
This changed shortly after, when the Arab Revolt during World War I led to the loss of these territories, ending centuries of Ottoman control over Islam’s most important cities.
It marked a major shift in both political power and religious leadership across the region.

Amazing Maps @amazingmap - This map depicts the Ottoman Empire in 1914, on the eve of the First World War, using a modern historical reconstruction produced by Geographx.
At this point, the empire still controlled large parts of the Middle East, including most of modern-day Turkey, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine, as well as parts of the Arabian Peninsula.
However, it was already in long-term decline. Over the previous century it had lost most of its territory in Europe and North Africa. Egypt, shown here separately, had been under British control since 1882, even though it remained nominally part of the empire until 1914.
When World War I began later that year, the Ottoman Empire joined the Central Powers. The war devastated the region, and by 1918 the empire had effectively collapsed.
In the years that followed, its former territories were divided and administered by European powers, especially Britain and France, shaping many of the borders that still exist today.
