U.S. Southern Command @Southcom - Strengthening the U.S.-Panama partnership:
The @USEmbPAN coordinated technical assistance from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to support the Government of Panama in assessing the structural integrity of the Bridge of the Americas following a tanker explosion underneath the bridge on April 6.
A four-member USACE team worked with Panamanian counterparts, including the Ministry of Public Works (MOP), to conduct assessments on the bridge. USACE personnel supported detailed inspections, evaluating potential risks such as heat exposure, stress to key structural components and overall stability of the bridge.
The response effort highlights the strength of the U.S.-Panama partnership, with both nations working side by side to share expertise, resources and capabilities. #SOUTHCOM @WHAAsstSecty @USACEHQ @USArmyWHC @DeptofWar

ustonymc @ustonymc - Laura Keene
Actress
1826- 1873
April 14 1865, John Wilkes Booth entered Lincoln's box and shot him point blank in the back of the head.
Keene, who had been acting on stage managed to work her way into Lincoln's box, and with a pitcher of water begged emotionally to be allowed to hold the President's head in her lap and bath his temples.
Mrs. Lincoln, who was usually so jealous of other women that she disliked seeing one engage her husband in conversation, was now so absorbed in her loud sobs that she made no objection.
The actress sat on the floor close to Lincoln's upturned face as she tenderly and uselessly, sprinkled and patted water upon his face as blood stains slowly spread on the skirt of her satin dress, soaking it, which was later donated to the National Museum of American History.

ustonymc @ustonymc - AN AUTOPSY then EMBALMING Abraham Lincoln The White House April 15 1865 In the guest room at the northeast corner of the second floor of the White House Lincoln's body was placed upon two boards laid across trestles. At 11:00 AM the autopsy began by sawing off the top of the President's skull straight around on a line above his ears so that the top could be lifted off. The head was opened and the brain removed and suddenly the bullet dropped out and fell into an empty basin.
Now that the autopsy was done, undertaker Charles Brown took over. Andrew Johnson, who had just been sworn in as the new President entered the room and watched briefly. Brown and his assistant drained Lincoln's blood through the jugular vein. Then they made a cut on the inside of the thigh and trough it force-pumped a chemical preparation which soon hardened the body like marble. The face was shaved except for a short tuft left at the chin. The eyes were closed, the eyebrows arched, the mouth set in the slightest of smiles.
Now Lincoln's body was covered with a white cloth, and a fine cambric handkerchief was spread over his face. Upon the pillow and over the breast were scattered white flowers and green leaves. Guards were posted at the door as the doctors pack up and leave.
