Stink Eye @thestinkeye - Your Holiness, many years ago, I used to fly fighters off of carriers in the Persian Gulf. One of our missions was to fly tanker missions, and we were armed with one AIM-9X (short range air-to-air missile) in case the Iranians got frisky. It was often a boring mission because I had to conserve fuel.
I couldn't bring a rosary with me because if it broke, the pieces could jam the flight controls. I'd print the mysteries on my kneeboard before I took off, and I used to make Xs and Os on my kneeboard for every prayer I said during the rosary. I prayed for myself due to my limitations - as you rightly note - I prayed for the people on the carrier, I prayed for those who were getting fuel behind me... I even prayed for the Iranian people, their government and their military.
One time, I was doing this mission, and I was rather high up, and I looked down to see an Iranian frigate turning hard with a US destroyer in international waters threatening the destroyer and its crew for no real reason other than... it could. The destroyer's seamanship and restraint was truly a sight to behold. I was the only fighter around, and I only had one missile with very limited air-to-surface capability. I paused my rosary and locked up the Iranian frigate with the missile and just orbited overhead.
Eventually, cooler heads prevailed and the boats went their separate ways and I broke lock with my missile and resumed my rosary adding both ships' crews to my intentions.
We're not all monsters, Your Holiness, and I am quite confident that, despite being one of the ones "waging war," our Lord heard my prayers that day and every day since. I am still praying for you and those around you that you make wise decisions in the leadership of our Church.
