All The Right Movies @ATRightMovies - Video: The blood oath scene in THE UNTOUCHABLES was written to take place on the street but Sean Connery said a church would be the only place in Chicago safe enough to talk about bringing down Al Capone. It was filmed in the Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica.

Amazing Maps @amazingmap - The scale of destruction was concentrated in a relatively small stretch of coastline, but the human impact was immense.
More than 18,000 people were killed or went missing, most in coastal communities in northeastern Japan. Entire towns were overwhelmed within minutes as waves surged inland, in some cases travelling several kilometres from the shore.
The tsunami also triggered the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, after flooding disabled cooling systems at the plant. This led to evacuations affecting over 100,000 people and long-term exclusion zones.
In many of the hardest-hit areas, the first waves arrived within 30 to 40 minutes, limiting evacuation time even with warnings in place.
The vast majority of deaths were caused by the tsunami, with around 90% of victims dying by drowning. The scale of destruction was concentrated in a relatively small stretch of coastline, but the human impact was immense.

Amazing Maps @amazingmap - The tsunami began with a magnitude 9.0–9.1 earthquake about 130 km off Japan’s northeast coast, near the Japan Trench.
That rupture displaced a huge section of the seafloor, pushing water upward and sending wave energy outward across the Pacific. The largest coastal impacts were near Japan, but the tsunami itself crossed the entire ocean, reaching Hawaii in around 7–8 hours and the U.S. West Coast in about 10–12 hours.
This map shows modeled open-ocean wave heights, not the height at the coast. In deep water, tsunami waves are often under 1 metre high, even when carrying enormous energy.
As the wave travelled, that energy spread out, lowering amplitudes with distance. By the time it reached distant coastlines, open-ocean values were much smaller, though coastal impacts could still be significant.
The streaked patterns come from the seafloor. Ridges and basins redirect the energy, creating long corridors that can focus waves toward certain coastlines.
