U.S. Navy @USNavy - Arctic nights. Northern lights.
The northern lights appear over Ice Camp Boarfish during Operation ICE CAMP 2026.
Sailors assigned to Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS Delaware (SSN 791) remove ice from the sail after an arctic surfacing.
USS Delaware Sailors stand topside.
ICE CAMP Boarfish is a three-week operation designed to research, test, and evaluate operational capabilities in the Arctic region. In addition to U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and Air National Guard, ICE CAMP brings together personnel from Australia, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Japan.
Held biennially, ICE CAMP partners with the Arctic Submarine Laboratory and was elevated from an exercise to an operation to better reflect the Navy’s strategic priorities in the Arctic. ICE CAMP provides the necessary training to maintain a working knowledge of a constantly changing region.

"Assuring our ability to operate in the High North is a strategic necessity. With the inclusion of Greenland into the USNORTHCOM area of responsibility, we are executing seamless defensive operations across North American Arctic. In close cooperation with allies and partners through exercises like Arctic Edge and NORAD's Operation Noble Defender, we are enhancing our joint and allied interoperability, stressing our forces in harsh conditions, and ensuring that we are ready to defend the High North anytime under all conditions."
