The Great Famine drove my ancestors to America (who 200 years earlier lost our family Kirwin castle in beautiful Galway in a card game ). They were feisty risk-takers who helped shape this republic—founded on Christian dignity, religious freedom, and the rights Patrick’s faith first defended.
This day reminds us of the fire St. Patrick lit: for the working man, the faithful family, the patriot who loves America (and Ireland). It reminds us the West was built on Christ.
So wear the green for the Emerald Isle, fly Old Glory for our newfound home, and kneel in thanks to the God who sent Patrick.
