After growing up in Germany and Italy, Einstein studied physics and mathematics at the Federal Polytechnic Academy in Zurich. While working in Switzerland in 1905, he had his “miracle year,” publishing five groundbreaking theoretical papers.
These papers introduced the idea that light is made of photons, explained Brownian motion, provided methods to determine the size of atoms, presented the theory of relativity, and demonstrated that mass and energy are equivalent, expressed in the famous equation E = mc².
He later moved to the United States, settling in New Jersey and accepting a position at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.
