Merz's trip to China, Trump says: We'll be talking about China, yes, sure. I'll be going to China in a little while. Every time we meet, you talk about China. We respect China. I do. We both do, I think. But it's always a topic of conversation. We've had a very good relationship with China. We used to lose a tremendous amount of money with China, and that's no longer the case. We have a very, very good relationship with China. And we have a very good relationship with Germany. All right.

White House Press Pool Reports @WHPressPool - Foreign Pool Report #1
Good morning,
I am your foreign pooler for the visit of Germany's chancellor Friedrich Merz who arrived Monday evening and stayed in the Blair House over night.
He is scheduled to arrive at the WH at 11 am, South Grounds Portico, closed to press.
The bilateral meeting in the Oval Office is scheduled to begin at 11.15 am and is open to press. A lunch in the Cabinet Room is scheduled for 12 am and is closed to press.
Following the meeting Chancellor Merz will hold a presser at 1.40 pm, it's only for German credentialed press which is handled by the German Embassy.
President Donald Trump and Chancellor Friedrich Merz have maintained structured engagement since Merz assumed office in May 2025. The relationship is anchored in NATO coordination, Ukraine policy alignment, and economic dialogue, with periodic differences on trade and industrial policy approaches. I also expect that the attack on Iran will be discussed. He posted on X Sunday evening:
“I will speak with President Trump in Washington on Tuesday about the latest developments in the Middle East. I am in close contact with partners in Europe, Israel, and the region. Now is not the time for lectures, but for unity and joint action.”
Germany remains the United States’ largest European economic partner and a central actor within the European Union (EU) and NATO decision-making structures.
