On February 4, 2025, a C-130 deployed to San Diego to conduct National Transport of Illegal Aliens (NTIA) operations was diverted away from NTIA to support a search and rescue case off of Mexico.
The aircraft supported the search from February 4-8 out of El Salvador and then returned to San Diego on February 9, the day after the search was suspended.
This mission was an overboard search for a missing crewmember off the CGC Waesche — Seaman Bryan K. Lee.
Waesche and responding assets searched for Lee for nearly 190 hours, covering more than 19,000 square nautical miles before suspending the search.
That anybody would try to politicize this mission and tragic loss of life just to smear a public official for political gain — especially while hiding behind the veil of anonymity — is shameful and grotesque.
Regarding detainee flights, the U.S Coast Guard conducted 886 sorties from 21 January 2025 through 09 February 2026, transporting 9,805 illegal alien detainees — out of a total of more than 700,000 deported by the Trump administration in that time. The Coast Guard has utilized C-130 and C-27 aircraft for this mission on an as-needed basis.
