When the ballots were finally recovered and counted, the corrupt officials were voted out of office. The uprising led to sweeping reforms in local law enforcement and became a lasting symbol of citizen resistance to electoral corruption in the United States.
The veterans involved later organized a reform government and many of them went on to serve as local officials, ensuring that McMinn County elections were monitored and fair for decades afterward.

It is hard to say when the NY Times hit rock bottom, but this may be the conclusive landing spot. NY Times columnist Jamelle Bouie joked how Vance's mother should have sold him to feed her drug addiction. She recently celebrated 10 years of sobriety...

Tom Cotton @SenTomCotton - I’m one of the members of Congress briefed on this matter last week. As I said below, I agree with not one but two inspectors general—one of whom served under Biden—who concluded that the complaint isn’t credible. It seemed like an effort by the president’s critics to undermine him. And now that they’ve leaked twice more since their first leak didn’t work, I believe that more than ever.

I have reviewed this “whistleblower” complaint and the inspector general handling of it. I agree with both inspectors general who have evaluated the matter: the complaint is not credible and the inspectors general and the DNI took the necessary steps to ensure the material has handled and transmitted appropriately in accordance with law. To be frank, it seems like just another effort by the president’s critics in and out of government to undermine policies that they don’t like; it’s definitely not credible allegations of waste, fraud, or abuse.
