Al Goodwyn @Al_Goodwyn - You may not know his name, but you’ve seen MC Escher’s art. His most iconic pieces feature mind-bending optical illusions and baffling artistic constructions such as staircases where figures ascend and descend in contradictory directions.
It was this type of disorienting drawing where the individuals within the art appear to exist in separate planes that made me think of the current appropriations mess. Each side of the aisle living separate realities.
My effort to draw an Escher-like depiction of government funding came with a unique challenge. Despite the simplicity of blocks, up could be sideways while sideways could be down. I needed to draw each perspective while ignoring the other.
