Perry Como’s appearance here was part of a concerted effort by MGM to develop Como into a movie star. Those efforts came to a grinding halt when Como, coerced into singing “Happy Birthday” to studio head Louis B. Mayer against his will, improvised some impolite alternative lyrics.
Mayer was so incensed at Como’s insubordination that he immediately dropped the vocalist’s contract and vowed to “blackball” him at every other studio in Hollywood. Como’s movie career effectively ended, but he enjoyed long-lasting success as both a recording and television star.

As you can see, the majority of a population is held prisoner by normalcy. The belief that tomorrow will look like today if they just keep their heads down.

Understand where you’re at. The majority of a country is always sheep. So when people get frustrated about a lack of hard line commitment from people, it’s the rule not the exception. It’s not good or bad, it just is.

But it will become bad real quick if the communists win. Right now, some of them are ready to die for what they believe in. People follow that kind of energy, no matter how misguided it is.

Are you prepared to die to prevent it?

Quite difficult to ponder isn’t it? If you’re losing sleep over the question, then good. You should.

You have to remember this country after 250 years is still just an experiment. Are you prepared to tweak the variables to keep it going? Is tweaking even necessary?

What does that look like? Can it be done “legally”? Are we destined for imperialism?
