Should you pass SB 749 into law (a bill that would make possession of standard 30 round rifle magazines illegal), I plan to violate it and am notifying you now so that you can charge me and put me in prison for the “crime” of possessing rifle magazines.

I didn’t lose them in a boating accident, I have them in my possession and do not have any plans to get rid of them.

I’m a husband, and a dad to two young children.

I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution, which means I am OBLIGATED to violate SB 749 if it goes into law as written, if unamended.

The ability of my children to grow up and have their constitutional rights uninfringed is more important than the threat of prison time. It would be far more preferable if you’d do the right thing and signal that there is no way you’d sign such a bill into law so that I, and tens of thousands of your constituents don’t have to worry about this.

Virgnia's SB 749 has been amended to, in part, remove the grandfather clause for current magazine owners. Keeping any mag that can hold more than ten rounds would be Class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to 12 months in prison.
