It’s worth explaining, though, that Corporate & Charter flying is a very different world than the airlines. They operate under completely different rulesets at the federal level. These rules are often more lenient for Corporate & Charter, to allow flexibility. They can, and do, operate where airlines can’t or won’t.

A complaint you’ll sometimes hear from this world is that owners pressure pilots to fly when the pilots are not comfortable doing so. The owners don’t understand the risks & the pilots are unable to convince them. The pilots fear for their jobs & résumé.

That’s a dynamic that can obviously lead to problems. It doesn’t really exist in the airline world anymore…I can walk away without fear if I think a flight is too risky. I’ve never had to do that personally, though…it rarely even approaches a point where I’d start considering that.

I want to emphasize that Corporate & Charter is not “unsafe”. They are professional, trained pilots operating professionally maintained, well designed aircraft. These jets are amazing machines & the pilots flying them are not much different from airline pilots. Many just prefer this world to the airlines…but they live under seperate rules.

I am also not implying anything here regarding the cause of the crash, just trying to give you some context. It’s important to understand the two worlds are not the same.

Investigators are absolutely going to look at the weather as a potential contributing factor, but it may not be. It could be something like failing to remove the “gust lock” (locks the controls so they don’t get damaged in winds on the ground) which has been responsible for this type of accident before.
Only an investigation will tell us.
