A private Bombardier Challenger 600 carrying eight people crashed moments after takeoff from Bangor International Airport on Sunday night as a powerful winter storm battered Maine, forcing the airport to shut down and delaying federal investigators from reaching the wreckage. Air traffic control audio captures the sudden shift from routine departure to chaos, with controllers stopping all traffic and reporting an aircraft upside down on the field as crash crews rushed in and the airport was immediately closed. Authorities say the jet went down around 7:45 p.m. shortly after departure and caught fire, while dispatchers worked to confirm how many souls were on board, believed to be three crew members and up to five passengers. First responders worked through heavy snow and poor visibility well into the night, and the FAA and NTSB are now investigating as officials say it remains unclear whether there were any survivors.
