US Department of the Interior @Interior - Orange rock formations pop against fresh white snow at @archesnps in Utah. Winter is the park’s quiet season—fewer crowds and no summer heat. Sure, snow and ice can make things tricky, but if you’re up for it, you’ll get wide-open views and some frosty shots.

U.S. Navy @USNavy - As Marines bravely fought to break the Siege of Khe Sanh, the Navy supported them from the sky. Naval aviators delivered almost 8,000 tons of bombs in over 5,300 sorties, while OP-2E Neptune crews provided critical intelligence for the fight on the ground.
This vital mission came at a cost. Three OP-2E Neptunes and 20 aircrewmen were lost in these operations, including Cmdr. Paul Milius, whose legacy of sacrifice and service lives on with USS Milius (DDG 69).

#OTD 58 years ago, the battle for Khe Sanh Combat Base began.
On this day fifty-six years ago in 1968, U.S. Marines at the Khe Sanh Combat Base in Vietnam were fighting in one of the most intense battles of the Vietnam War.
The Battle of Khe Sanh pitted 6,000 encircled and besieged Marines against 20,000 North Vietnamese Army troops.
Alongside South Vietnamese troops, #Marines endured massive artillery bombardments and limited supplies. However, with the help of overwhelming close air support strikes and resupply missions from @1stMAW_Marines, the USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7), @US7thFleet, and the @usairforce, the Marines on ground were able to resist the enemy’s repeated assaults.
After 77 days of intense fighting, the siege of Khe Sanh Combat Base was broken by Operation Pegasus, though the base would continue to see combat until the end of July 1968.
