Susan Collins @SenatorCollins - Great news today for Maine’s rural hospitals and health care providers as the state has been awarded $190 million through the Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) in the first of five funding cycles. I proposed the $50 billion RHTP initiative—the largest single federal investment in rural health care in more than two decades—earlier this year to help give rural states like Maine the resources they need to keep health care available close to home.
This funding will strengthen rural hospitals and support innovative approaches to lower costs and improve health outcomes for Mainers, no matter where they live. And while this investment will not solve every challenge facing our state’s rural health care system, it will improve access to care for individuals across rural Maine at a time when many rural health care providers are facing significant financial hardship.
Maine’s population is the oldest of any state in the nation and is among the most rural, making continued support for rural health care providers critical to ensuring that more Mainers can receive timely medical care when they need it.
