Jim Koenigsberger @Jimfrombaseball - Video: "When I first started playing ball, about 1946, I used a big Trapper mitt at first base.
I’d snag everything one-handed.
In 1939, they used those small gloves with the five stubby fingers and no webbing.
In the movie, we use the same kind.
So just about the first ball hit to me in the outfield, I wave everybody off and yell, ‘I got it.’
It looked like an easy catch.
The ball bounced off that little glove and hit me right on the head.
It was a very small glove, not much bigger than your hand.
When the ball would come to you, you’d put that glove on it and that thing went through the fingers… and a couple good bounces on the head taught you to be very careful you didn’t put your glove out in front of your face.
You caught it on the side and you took it.
Two days is all we had with ‘Spec’ Shea.
The throwing came back to me pretty quickly. I’d done so much of it as a kid.
But I had to learn the double-pump windup that pitchers used in the ‘20s.”

Julie Kelly @julie_kelly2 - The corporate media ignored for years the torture endured by American citizens languishing inside the DC gulag after being abducted (that’s the word, right?) from their homes by their own government for even minor involvement in a political protest on public property on a Wednesday afternoon.
Many, including veterans, suffered “diesel therapy” as they were transported from jail to jail until they reached the special prison created for Trump supporters.
Several accused of no violence with no criminal record were nonetheless held at the gulag under pretrial detention orders.
There were no sympathetic segments on 60 Minutes or by Stelter at CNN or anywhere outside of a few right-leaning outlets. Now they are outraged by the treatment of illegal Venezuelans suspected of ties to Tren de Aragua.
Hey @bariweiss it’s not too late to cover that legit American travesty.

Here's what Bari Weiss said on the CBS 9am call, per a source who transcribed it:
"I want to say something about trust: our trust for each other and our trust with the public.
The only newsroom I’m interested in running is one in which we are able to have contentious disagreements about the thorniest editorial matters with respect, and, crucially, where we assume the best intent of our colleagues. Anything else is absolutely unacceptable.
I held a 60 Minutes story because it was not ready. While the story presented powerful testimony of torture at CECOT, it did not advance the ball—the Times and other outlets have previously done similar work. The public knows that Venezuelans have been subjected to horrific treatment at this prison. To run a story on this subject two months later, we need to do more. And this is 60 Minutes. We need to be able to get the principals on the record and on camera.
Our viewers come first. Not the listing schedule or anything else. That’s my north star and I hope it’s yours, too."
