Anna Paulina Luna @realannapaulina - The growing number of both Democrats and Republicans signing the discharge petition to force a vote on banning congressional stock trading should give Americans real hope. It shows that rank-and-file members are willing to hold their own parties accountable—even when party leadership has been lukewarm at best and has sometimes actively tried to block us.
The truth is simple: if leadership on either side truly wanted this bill on the floor, it would have happened a long time ago. It hasn’t because no one has forced the issue until now.
A bipartisan group of us sees how corrupt and unfair this looks (and is), and we’re pushing hard to get it fixed for the American people. Yes, that very much includes Democrats too.
Every single member of Congress is up for re-election right now, which makes this the perfect moment to get it done. I’d love to watch any colleague—Republican or Democrat—go back home and explain to their voters how they’ve made millions trading stocks on insider information they only got because they serve in Congress, and then ask those same voters to send them back here.
It’s happening in my party and it’s happening in theirs. Everybody knows it, and a lot of us on both sides are finally saying “enough.”
