This CNN panel desperately tried to demonize Trump's admin for "starving children" by not funding SNAP.
Their argument collapsed when they misrepresented the SNAP contingency fund judges forced Trump to spend.
@ScottJenningsKY nailed it: "That is literally a king, spending money that is not appropriated."
The "rainy day" fund? Real, but not a blank check:
- Prior appropriations aren't for routine monthly benefits during a partisan shutdown.
- USDA: Reserve for true emergencies (e.g., hurricanes), not bypassing Congress on $8B+ Nov. needs.
- Forcing release via judges (Oct. 31 rulings) overrides the power of the purse, as Jennings warned.
- Even in 2018-19, USDA used it for limited months under prior CR authority, not as a full override.
Dems blocked CRs, then demanded Trump spend anyway. Their "suffering tactic" failed when 8 of their own broke ranks to end the shutdown.
Trump didn’t starve anyone. Dems gambled with food stamps for politics.
