Julie Kelly @julie_kelly2 - Let me help you understand, Lauren. The central crime was “Trump, without authorization, retained at MAR A LAGO CLUB (emphasis added) documents relating to the national defense.”
Is MAL in DC? No? Did the alleged “obstruction conspiracy” in moving boxes around MAL or allegedly hiding them in MAL happen in DC? No.
The ONLY reason you and many of Jack Smith’s prosecutors wanted to keep docs case in DC is because—as they stated—DOJ would get a quick conviction in DC versus Florida.
And they were afraid of running into a buzzsaw in Judge Cannon—who had already BUSTED JAY BRATT in the special master lawsuit BEFORE Smith was appointed but as Bratt helped concoct the docs case—for leaking investigative info to the media and mishandling evidence early on.
In her order authorizing a special master to vet all the evidence collected at MAL, Cannon essentially said she did not trust the government. Although the appellate court overturned her special master appointment, she was proven 💯 right in the end.
FURTHER, dear Lauren, Trump’s legal team raised the possibility of an abuse of grand jury filing because Smith had conducted the entire docs investigation in DC so he could get favorable court rulings in the matter by Beryl Howell then Jeb Boasberg.
When Cannon confronted Jack Smith’s thugs as to why the investigation took place in DC and not Florida, Jay Bratt did NOT say it was because the “crimes” happened in DC — that would have been a lie and a lie even too big for a degenerate like Bratt to try to get away with.
His answer? Most of the witnesses and prosecutors lived in DC so it was easier to conduct the investigation there
Further, despite numerous requests, Boasberg refused to transfer to Cannon all the transcripts of the DC grand jury proceedings.
In the end, Lauren, Smith realized he had to transfer the case to Florida, the proper jurisdiction, at the last minute or risk the case being tossed. Smith also knew that just a few weeks later, he’d be seeking (and winning) an indictment in DC against Trump for Jan 6.
And as far as the argument a Florida grand jury indicted Trump—reports indicate prosecutors simply read transcripts of the DC proceedings to the FLA GJ. How is that fair? Or even permissible?
Hope this helps.

It was actually confusing because Trump took the documents from D.C. and moved them to Mar-a-Lago. That created a legitimate jurisdictional question. Ultimately, DOJ chose to indict in Florida, which is far more favorable to Trump politically & demographically. So if anything, he benefited. What exactly is your complaint here?

Historians will never admit it, but Trump's already gotten more done in just 1/4 of one term than other presidents have accomplished in two terms. He's the most action-oriented president since Teddy Roosevelt, who was half his age. He's more peripatetic than even Clinton or Obama
