Sheriff’s deputies find Sacramento County election ballots at homeless camp
October 15, 2025 6:41 PM

Deputies found about 100 election ballots scattered in a large pile of mail Wednesday at a homeless encampment in rural Sacramento County.
The deputies were in the area of Elder Creek and Mayhew roads for a cleanup at the homeless encampment.
Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, said previously posted signs informed anyone there that a cleanup of the area had been scheduled.
Gandhi said deputies found about 100 Sacramento County pink election ballots and other election-related materials scattered among a large pile of mail.

The Sheriff’s Office released photos of the found election ballots, which appeared damaged by rain and mud.

Gandhi said deputies collected all the mail, securing the ballots and election mail separately.
He said the deputies then returned election ballots to the Sacramento County Voter Registration and Elections Office for proper handling.
