1975 Live @50YearsAgo - In Traverse City, Michigan, Stephen Holcomb, Jr., walks into a branch of the National Bank and Trust Company with a 100,000 Reichsmark note from 1923 and presents it for conversion to U.S. dollars.
The note was printed during a time of hyperinflation and is worthless today, but the teller mistakes it for a current West German Deutsche Mark note and presents Holcomb with $39,700 in cash.
The bank quickly realizes its mistake and goes after Holcomb, but he argues that he deserves the money because he never requested the current exchange rate, and the bank simply gave him the money without asking questions.

Miraculously, he survives after landing on some tires.

When I took my naturalization oath last July, I broke down at the part that says:
“I hereby declare, on oath, … that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same…”
The Constitution, along with the Declaration of Independence, is one of the most important documents in the history of mankind, and we should all take seriously the massive achievement they represent.
