Curtis Sliwa @CurtisSliwa - Today Nancy and I visited the Sheepshead Bay and Nostrand Houses to check on an urgent situation involving a feral cat colony trapped inside a shuttered daycare facility.
For nearly ten days, the cats were sealed in with little food or water while NYCHA denied they were there.
We saw cats roaming the property and met with Olga Hudyno of Midwood Cats, who has been working tirelessly to trap and rehome them.
NYCHA posted signs warning it is unlawful to provide cats access to the building, instead of helping those doing the real work.
Feral cat caretakers are unsung heroes. They spend their own time and money to spay, vaccinate, and feed animals the city ignores.
As Mayor, I will make sure they have the resources and support they deserve. NYC should be a partner, not an obstacle. No more looking the other way.
