Craig Caplan @CraigCaplan - Trump, the day after the WH dinner with GOP Senators, tells Thune to cancel the Senate’s August recess: “Hopefully the very talented John Thune, fresh off our many victories over the past two weeks and, indeed, 6 months, will cancel August recess (and long weekends!), in order to get my incredible nominees confirmed. We need them badly!!!”

Curtis Sliwa @CurtisSliwa - When New York City approved a 34 year contract with Animal Care and Control after years of failure and mismanagement, that was not oversight. It was malfeasance of the highest order.
The city shelter system is not just another agency or program. It affects living, breathing creatures every single day—our four legged family members and the most vulnerable among us. They cannot speak for themselves, so we must.
We cannot allow these defenseless animals to keep suffering. The time to act is long overdue. Animal Care and Control needs to be removed from our shelter system, and New York City must finally treat animal welfare as the serious and urgent priority it deserves to be.
That’s why I am running on the first ever animal welfare line, Protect Animals. In a Sliwa Administration, animal lives will no longer be ignored.

Cynical Publius @CynicalPublius - This is a great and profound post.
It is not a part of his post, but as a related note, what really chaps my hide is when some vets feel the need to denigrate the wartime service of other vets.
Every vet who went to war and performed his or her duties honorably is worthy of respect. Full stop.
