According to US Coast Guard Sector St Petersburg, they were notified at approximately 8:40 p.m. Sunday of a collision between the Clearwater Ferry and a recreational vessel near the Memorial Causeway Bridge. 
The recreational vessel involved in the crash reportedly fled the scene immediately following the collision after injuring roughly 40 passengers resulting in one death so far.
6 victims were designated as trauma alerts, 2 of which required immediate air transport for specialized medical care.
The United States Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) have launched a joint investigation into the hit-and-run crash. This is still developing.
