Hmm I'm actually a sort of manager for my current company and a lot of my past companies, so I can possibly add my 2 cents to all of this.

I'll do it little by little, but just letting you know that sometimes managers and upper management gets people fired because "I just don't like that guy/girl"

I'm not joking. They've literally talked to me about getting rid of people from their work space for whatever reason they can think of. Not liking the person is sometimes one of those reasons.  

Lots of things to talk about regarding office /pol/itics, but a lot of it depends on which industry or company you work for or if you work with majority women. And I know from personal experience that some women prefer to work other women, people they like, or just plain unprofessional and crazy idiots. Because they're funny and spontaneous or whatever
