He got sick in both but rode well when he was feeling healthy. Not sure who all this pointless PR yapping is for. His DS would know from experience that Jonas is more likely to get sick in his second grand tour so he wouldn't recommend the Giro if the main goal is still Tour de France. Maybe they say all this bullshit for the sponsors or maybe for the fans? They could easily be honest and say Jonas rides the Giro to win it as his main goal or one of his main goals of this season. Who would be against that?
