This is some very odd American thing, in Finnish all sports are just called urheilu, regardless of whether your opponents can play defence or not. I remember getting into very odd debates about this 15 years ago on /sp/ when I called ski jumping my favourite sport and autistic burgers were like "lol it isn't a sport, just a game"
