Yes well, I will have these random revelations about absolutely obvious stuff.
I think I was near 30 when it dawned on me that a main street named after a nearby town will be the street that leads towards that town.
I am now forgetting most of them because of huge auto-embarassement.

It dawned on me now that chevalier comes from cheval. And I know the word cheval since like 20 years. At least 10 since I learned cavallo.
And Polish kawaleria (general name for a horseback unit) derives from these, the same as kawaler, a member of kawaleria but also an unmarried man (me, and most of us but Norbert, Bertele, Suissebert, Patjebert, at least one of the Burgerberts).
